This Cookie Policy explains what cookies are, why PlayWithStakes.com uses them, what kinds of cookies we set, and how you can control them. It supplements our Privacy Policy and applies to all visitors to playwithstakes.com.
What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your browser when you visit a website. They allow a site to remember information about your visit, such as your preferences, login state, or which pages you’ve viewed. Cookies can be set by the site you’re visiting (first-party cookies) or by other domains whose content is embedded on the page (third-party cookies). Similar technologies — local storage, pixels, beacons — are covered by this policy as well.
Cookies We Use
Strictly necessary
Required for the site to function. These include cookies that maintain your session if you log in (for example, if you leave a comment), remember whether you’ve dismissed a notice, and protect against cross-site request forgery. You cannot disable these cookies through our site, but you can block them in your browser — note that doing so may break parts of the site.
Performance and analytics
These cookies tell us which pages are visited, how long visitors spend on them, and where errors occur. We use this anonymized, aggregated data to improve the site. The analytics provider we use is described in the third-party section below.
Affiliate tracking
When you click an outbound link to a sweepstakes operator, both PlayWithStakes and the operator may set tracking cookies that allow the operator to credit your signup or play to PlayWithStakes for affiliate commission purposes. These cookies typically expire within 30–90 days. They do not track your activity outside the operator’s site or across other sites.
Functional / preference
Cookies that remember a user preference — for example, your dismissal of a banner, your selected sort order on a comparison table, or whether you’ve already seen a state-restriction notice.
Third-Party Cookies
Some content embedded on PlayWithStakes is served by third parties, and those parties may set their own cookies. The third parties we work with at present include:
- Google Analytics / Google Tag Manager — measures site usage. Google’s cookie policy: policies.google.com/technologies/cookies
- Cloudflare — provides our content delivery network and security layer. Cookie policy: cloudflare.com/cookie-policy
- Affiliate networks belonging to the operators we promote — these are set only when you click an outbound link to an operator.
- Embedded media — if a page includes an embedded video, image, or social post from a third party (YouTube, X, etc.), that provider may set cookies.
We do not sell or share your cookie data with these third parties beyond what is required to deliver the service.
Managing Cookies
You can manage cookies in several ways:
- Cookie banner. When you first visit the site, you can accept or reject non-essential cookies via the consent banner. You can change your preferences at any time using the “Cookie Preferences” link in the site footer.
- Browser controls. All major browsers let you delete existing cookies and block new ones. See aboutcookies.org for instructions per browser.
- Do Not Track. We currently do not respond to “Do Not Track” browser signals because there is no industry consensus on how to do so consistently. We do honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals where applicable.
- Opt out of analytics specifically. Google offers a browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout that disables Google Analytics on every site you visit.
State Privacy Rights
If you reside in California (CCPA/CPRA), Colorado (CPA), Connecticut (CTDPA), Virginia (VCDPA), Utah (UCPA), Texas (TDPSA), Oregon (OCPA), or another state with a comprehensive privacy law, you have the right to know what personal information we process, to request deletion, to correct inaccuracies, to opt out of “sale” or “sharing” of personal information, and to opt out of targeted advertising. We do not sell personal information in the traditional sense, but our use of analytics and affiliate-tracking cookies may qualify as “sharing” under some statutes. Updates
We may update this Cookie Policy when we add, remove, or change the technologies in use. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will also be posted on the homepage for at least 14 days.
