The San Antonio Spurs have made the decision to sit Victor Wembanyama for the rest of the Summer League, according to reports. The team had planned for the French standout to play in only two games during the Las Vegas event.

 

 

After a challenging debut, the first overall pick bounced back impressively, recording a team-high 27 points, 12 rebounds, and three blocks in Sunday’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers. He also contributed nine points, eight rebounds, five blocks, and three assists in his sole other appearance against the Charlotte Hornets.

Prior to the NBA draft, Wembanyama concluded an exceptional season with French club Metropolitans 92, where he averaged 21.6 points, 10.4 rebounds, three blocks, and 2.4 assists per game over 34 appearances. The 18-year-old garnered multiple accolades in France’s top domestic basketball league, including MVP, best scorer, and best defender. Reflecting on the intense media scrutiny he has faced, Wembanyama expressed his desire to focus solely on basketball and improve for the future.


With a 1-1 record in the Summer League, the Spurs are set to face the Washington Wizards on Tuesday and the Detroit Pistons on Friday.
