Rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson will lead the Indianapolis Colts in Week 1 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Colts drafted Richardson as the fourth overall pick and the third quarterback chosen in the draft. He secured the starting position over Gardner Minshew, who joined the Colts after backing up Jalen Hurts on the Philadelphia Eagles in 2022.

Richardson’s talent, particularly his arm strength and athleticism, marked him as one of the standout quarterbacks in his draft class. With Richardson at the helm in 2023, the Colts will have their eighth different Week 1 quarterback in eight seasons.

Indianapolis, seeking stability at the quarterback position since Andrew Luck’s retirement in 2019, is ushering in a new era with Richardson and first-year coach Shane Steichen. The Colts aim to break their streak of losing season openers, a drought that dates back to 2013.
