ACC presidents approved the addition of Stanford, Cal, and SMU, with Stanford and Cal accepting reduced TV revenue shares and SMU receiving no TV revenue for nine years. Incentives for football success are part of the deal, but details on incentives for other sports are unknown. In 2022, Stanford had a 3-9 record, Cal had a 4-8 record, and SMU finished at 7-6.

This summer’s conference realignment has affected many schools. Oregon and Washington joined the Big Ten in August, following USC and UCLA’s acceptance last year. Arizona State, Colorado, and Utah are set to leave the Pac-12 for the Big 12 in 2024, while the Big 12 is losing Texas and Texas Tech to the SEC next year. With Stanford and Cal leaving, only Washington State and Oregon State will remain in the Pac-12 after 2023.
