It couldn’t get any worse for the Angels…Shohei Ohtani will not pitch for the Los Angeles Angels in the 2023 season due to a torn UCL in his pitching elbow, as confirmed by general manager Perry Minasian. Mike Trout, who recently returned from injury, is also heading back to the injured list. Ohtani left a game after just 26 pitches and is now considered day-to-day as a designated hitter while awaiting a second opinion on his injury.

It’s unclear if Ohtani will need surgery for his elbow issue, and a second surgery could impact his upcoming free agency. Trout returned briefly but will now be out of baseball activities for at least 10 days. The Angels, who have been struggling, hope for Trout’s return, but they face a significant deficit in the playoff race.
